Worry over New Year's rally
|
2009/01/07 12:48:02 AM

Its too soon to expect a sustained market rise. The US has barely survived the subprime mess, but aftershocks are still plentiful. A bigger problem is reviving the stalled economy. Whatever Obama comes up with won't make dramatic impact, it will take time. Then, further down the track, there is further peril waiting! Sooner or later the US must pay the price for all the money its printing! Inflation will soar, and the dollar will be devalued. Wall Street has a long way to go to a new bull run.

Ja well no fine. What ever happened to that great idea of Mr Mc Rae (?) of sorting out an entire hydro-electric scheme involving INGE? and the DRC. Now there is good clean fuel supplied free of charge by mother earth (provided we don't stuff that up first by screwing up the global warming). Looks like man was born to suffer and has forgotten the exact science of hind-sight!

Could someone please investigate the position of real estate company by the name of Bonatla. The said company was suspended around July 2007. Recently they were speculations that the company is re-registering in January 2009 but the specific day was never mentioned.

Change to Capitec Bank - more than 10% interest on credit balances, and R3.75 per month admin fee. Withdraw cash at till-point for R1, and debit card purchases free! I also use internet banking, with R125 once-off fee for token, then free thereafter! I'm saving over R150 per month in charges!

New Richards Bay plan 'unlikely'

Transnet has underfunded freight railways for years now. Ramos was appointed partially to address this issue. She has put in place plans to upgrade but it takes time. RCBT joins Sishen Saldanha in the queue of businesses suffering as a result. Successive transport ministers since 1994 must carry the can for this debacle, as Erwin must in respect of Eskom. ANC incompetence is shooting SA's GNP growth in both feet! I dont care if its "collective"! Fire the lot, I say.

It seems if you held a small quantity of warrants then you did not get paid out for your holdings - I had 21 warrants but got no compensation for these holding either in shares or as a cash payout - is this correct?

What are you guys whinging about (again!)? Remember 1994 when we were told that a black government can work - "Look at Zimbabwe"! A country will get the government that it deserves. History has proven this point over and over again.

While Zimbabwe is in crisis, this mentally diseased pr&$k takes a month's holiday, outside of the country, and at state expense ?? Now's the opportunity to nail him; good, proper and permanently. May he never return and permanently suffer in hell !!! If you see him, you know what to do !!

I agree with David Sylvester that SABMiller is an excellent bet !!! When the going gets tough and the heat is on, there is very little better than a cold frostie or ten. In addition, with the Aussies cricket(y) team on its way over here to our promised land, most local ( and foreign ) supporters will be into the sponsors products in a BIG way. If you win, you celebrate, if you lose, you drown your sorrows. Someone has to win, with the other team coming second. SABMiller will benefit from both.

Why list?
|
2009/01/06 04:52:15 PM
|
Most technology companies list to consolidate their debt ( they find better crediting terms ) and ram up research and development and hope they find new products or that increased marketing will improve their market share. Whatever the case, they usually burn through cash hoping something positive will happen. I don't think they really have profits in mind.

I think the economic slump will eventually hit these bastards that rip us off. If the prices do come down, i don't believe it will be because of lower oil prices, it'll because of the pinch. The only way to beat the system is to self produce. (please don't mistake that for REproduce)

RE: Boris. I don't think you have a strong case for the farmers to be honest. Sure, farmers may get paid the least on per unit basis. But remember farmers mass produce! No waiter will be able to serve thousands upon thousands of bottles of wine.

To call what Mustek and Pinnacle do "manufacturing" is quite laughable. In almost all cases they just slap a "Mecer" or "Proline" logo onto a cheap Chinese no-name product and then flog it on to clueless PC-illiterate people. I never buy either of these brands, as they are synonymous with bad quality.
Lower global demand for electronics is GOOD for us, because it makes it cheaper. We don't manufacture the products, we import and use them, so YAY!
